X-SAMPA

For computerreadability and transfer of transcription, both segmental and suprasegmental transcription, a transcription system has been introduced. The first step was the creation of SAMPA , which is commonly used in most electronic published works, but prosodic features were not part of this system. Therefore J.C. Wells proposed an extension which is called X-SAMPA . In contrast to Selting and ToBI X-SAMPA is linebased, with the result that humans might have problems to read it. Anyhow, it's purpose was not to be readable but to enable transfer of transcription via E-Mail an storage in ASCII format.
